The Rev. Ann Aaberg | Pastor
Ann began as our pastor in October, 2008, having graduated from Andover Newton Theological School the previous spring with a master of divinity degree. While attending seminary, Ann served the Wollaston Congregational Church in Quincy, Massachusetts, as their minister of Christian education.
Prior to attending seminary, Pastor Ann pursued careers both in accounting and in health care policy. After earning a bachelor of science in management from Babson College, she spent several years as a certified public accountant and eventually as the chief financial officer of the family business. Upon completing a Master’s degree in public health at the Boston University School of Public Health, Ann worked in health care policy at the state level, both as a senior policy analyst and as a consultant, and then served as the executive director of the Massachusetts Healthcare Purchaser Group until entering seminary in 2003.
In addition to her duties here as pastor, Ann currently serves on the board of the Mystic Area Shelter & Hospitality (MASH) and is actively involved in the Mystic Area Ecumenical Council (MAEC).
A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Christa began as the Associate Pastor in September 2016. She is ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and is a graduate of Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Prior to joining the staff of MCC, Christa served in Marquand Chapel, the ecumenical chapel at Yale Divinity School and as the Campus and Young Adult Minister at Broadway Presbyterian Church in New York City.
Within our walls, Christa has a commitment to the faith formation of our youth and adults. In her work and in her life, she likes to sing the word justice.
Before seminary, with undergraduate degrees in Business and Psychology, Christa worked in corporate merchandising in Columbus, Ohio and New York.
Christa lives in Waterford, CT with her partner, Sarah and their two children, Porter and Sydney.
Andrew Howell | Director of Music
Andrew Howell, conductor and organist, received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Rhode Island and was also the first graduate of URI’s Master of Music program in Choral Conducting Performance, also studying Organ Performance with George Kent. Immediately after graduating from the University of Rhode Island, Andrew joined the conducting faculty of the URI Music Department as Director of its 80-voice University Chorus and has also taught Music Appreciation and Ear Training & Sight Singing courses.
Andrew is Director of Music at Mystic Congregational Church in Mystic, Connecticut, and in the summer months is Music Director and Organist at the Watch Hill Chapel in Westerly, Rhode Island. He also serves Music Director of the Chorus of Westerly, RI, where he conducts the roughly 90 children and 110 adults in a series of choral masterwork concerts from Bach to Britten and everything in between, as well as Christmas and Summer Pops programs each year. Andrew has previously worked with a number of choral organizations and churches in Rhode Island and Connecticut – as Music Director of the Stonington Choral Society, Organist and Choir Director of the Episcopal Cathedral in Providence, Organist and Assistant for the Anglican Singers, and most recently, Organist and Choirmaster at St. James Episcopal Church in New London, CT.
In addition to his work as conductor and church musician, Andrew has played organ recitals at numerous churches in Rhode Island and Connecticut, and from 2004 to 2011 worked as a harpsichord technician and tuner for Zuckermann Harpsichords in Stonington, Connecticut. Andrew lives in Westerly with his wife Emily and their four children: Sadie, Rowan, Henry, and Arthur.
Genviéve-Ashley Spitale | Director of Children’s Ministries
A native of Mystic, Genviéve-Ashley Spitale is so happy to be back in her hometown teaching and worshiping at Mystic Congregational Church. Genviéve received her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Rhode Island, and has since been spending her time performing as a vocalist in various choral ensembles, directing the music of numerous children’s musical theater productions, and teaching music as a private lessons teacher and a classroom teacher. Her public school teaching career began at Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy Middle School in Lincoln, Rhode Island where she taught general music and chorus. For the past 3 years, Genviéve has had the pleasure of teaching music at the Dual Language & Arts Magnet Middle School in Waterford, Connecticut where she teaches general music to grades 6-8, as well as directs chorus, ukulele ensemble, and rock band. Genviéve lives in Griswold with her fiance Chris, daughter Grace, and two dogs, Vito & Banjo.
