Neighbors in Need Appeal

Dear Members and Friends,

Each week as we leave Church we share our Common Commission in which we promise to support the weak, help the afflicted, and honor all persons.  Let us join together to bring these words to life with our donations to Neighbors in Need (NIN) on October 4.  NIN is a special churchwide offering which supports ministries of the UCC throughout the world.  Two-thirds of the offering funds grants to organizations that promote justice, advocacy, and direct services to those most in need.  Information on past grant recipients is available online (ucc.org/nin).

The remaining third of the offering is dedicated to the Council for American Indian Ministries (CAIM) which supports the twenty UCC congregations and their pastors on reservations and one urban, multi-tribal UCC congregation in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  CAIM is also an invaluable resource for more than 1,000 individuals from dozens of other tribes and nations who are members of other UCC congregations in the U.S.

Ministering to a congregation on a reservation in South Dakota, Pastor Byron Buffalo and Toni Buffalo have fought against the prevailing the poverty and despair.  Their efforts have resulted in a full-size basketball court, a community garden, and a community chicken coop among other things.  Your support has helped make their dreams a reality.  Please give generously.

Envelopes will be available in the pews, and on the tables outside the sanctuary.  We will share our offering together this Sunday, October 4.  Donations may be made after October 4 as well.

With Gratitude,
