This Lent… Give It a Rest

Sabbath is intentional time taken by individuals and faith communities to integrate the Divine with humanity and creation.  For the upcoming six weeks of Lent we have been invited to explore the spiritual practice of Keeping Sabbath.  Our Sunday School is following a Keeping Sabbath  curriculum through the end of March and our adults may plug in to the exploration by studying on their own and/or checking in right here with theh Pastor and other adults.  Each week through an insert in the Sunday bulletin and a post to the Pastor’s Blog, you’ll be given a scripture passage to meditate upon, a few questions for self-reflection and a word of encouragement to set aside some alone time with God.

This week, Week 1, read and think about Genesis 2:2-3:  “And on the seventh day God finished the work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all the work that he had done.  So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed itr, because on it God rested from all the work that he had done in creation.”

1)  In what types of creation have you participated within your home, family, career, hobbies?

2)  How do you rest from creating?  Or from a flurry of any activity?  How do you relax and recoup?

3)  What does the idea of God resting f rom creation suggest to you?  What might God be doing during that rest?  How might you extend these ideas into Sabbath time for yourself?

This week:
